Vitis in Vulture “Forentum” Aglianico del Vulture Superiore DOCG 2017 – Country: Italy – Capacity: 0.75 Vitis in Vulture Born on the slopes of Mount Vulture, in Basilicata, it is a small oenological treasure that tells a thousand-year-old story. We are talking about Forentum, Aglianico del Vulture Superiore DOCG. Its name refers to ancient Lavello, a vital centre in Roman times, as testified by the works of Horace and Pliny. 100% Aglianico del Vulture, these ancient indigenous grapes find their ideal habitat in the mineral-rich volcanic soils. The vineyards, with good exposure, are located at an altitude of about 450 metres above sea level. Harvesting takes place between the end of October and the beginning of November. The grapes are hand-picked and carefully selected to ensure maximum quality. After crushing and destemming, the grapes ferment on the skins for about 18 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. This is followed by ageing for about 12 months in small wooden vats, which gives the wine complexity and spicy notes. Bottling and further ageing in the bottle complete the production process. To the eye Forentum shows an intense garnet red colour, enriched with violet reflections. On the nose, the bouquet is complex and enveloping, with spicy notes of vanilla, liquorice and sweet tobacco, in perfect harmony with notes of berry jam. In the mouth, the tannins, although present, are soft and velvety. The structure is solid, but the well-integrated acidity gives freshness and liveliness. Forentum is a versatile wine that lends itself to numerous pairings. It is perfect with full-bodied first courses, meat sauces, roast red meats and mature cheeses. Lamb, in particular, is an ideal.
