M. Chapoutier “Les Granits” Saint-Joseph Blanche 2021 – Country: Italy – Capacity: 0.75 M. Chapoutier Born in the heart of the Rhone Valley, one of France’s most fascinating wine regions. It is called Les Granits and is proposed by M. Chapoutier. The Rhone Valley is famous for its geological diversity, and Saint-Joseph is a perfect example. The vineyards, on extremely steep slopes, are mainly composed of granite, which gives the soil excellent drainage. This forces the plants to push their roots very deep in search of water and nutrients. This results in very concentrated grapes, rich in minerals, capable of producing wines with a distinct minerality. A distinctive characteristic of Les Granits, produced exclusively from Marsanne grapes. This is an indigenous grape variety of the Rhone Valley, known for its ability to express terroir in an extraordinary way. A child of biodynamic viticulture, the winemaking process of Les Granits is meticulous and respectful of tradition, with a touch of innovation. The grapes are subjected to a direct pressing. Subsequently, fermentation takes place half in stainless steel tanks and half in ‘demi-muid’, large traditional 600-litre containers. Subsequent ageing on the lees protae for 8-10 months, with regular btonnage to give the wine a creamy texture and greater aromatic complexity. To the eye, Les Granits has a brilliant golden yellow colour. On the nose, one immediately perceives the minerality that characterises the terroir, accompanied by floral and fruity notes. On the palate, it is balanced, with a lovely freshness that goes well with the rich structure and velvety texture. Perfect with first courses and seafood, Les Granits goes well with refined fish and shellfish dishes. Also try it with soft cheeses and white meats.
