Le Thadee “Carlo Re” Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG 2019 – Country: Italy – Capacity: 0.75 Le Thadee The jewel in the crown of Azienda Agricola Le Thadee, Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG Carlo Re is born in an ancient and fascinating land known for its profound winemaking tradition. Montefalco is distinguished by its gently undulating hills and ideal climate for growing vines, with hot summers, mild winters and large temperature ranges that favour slow and regular ripening of the grapes. Soils rich in clay and limestone help give the wine a strong mineral character, adding character and longevity to the wines produced in this area. The Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG represents the highest level of quality and envisages the use of only Sagrantino, a native of Montefalco known for its extraordinary tannic power and ageing capacity. Vinified in steel tanks and terracotta amphorae, maceration varies from 10 to 18 days. During this period, pumping over and punching down are carried out to ensure a perfect extraction of tannins, colour and aromas. At the end of fermentation, the wine matures for eighteen months in French oak tonneaux, with different levels of toasting giving the wine a unique aromatic complexity. The btonnage of the fine lees adds roundness and body. Finally, after bottling, the wine matures for at least a further four months in the cellar before release. A deep garnet red, Carlo Re offers an intense, spicy bouquet. Notes of undergrowth blend perfectly with decisive accents of ripe red fruits, such as blueberries and blackberries, enriched by a complex spiciness reminiscent of black pepper and incense. In the mouth it is structured and enveloping, with a silky and well-integrated tannic texture. A wine that enchants for its complexity and ability to evolve over time, Carlo Re can wait in the cellar for up to 15 years, continuing to develop notes of dried fruit, leather and spices, becoming even softer and more enveloping over time. Perfect with rich and flavoursome dishes, it goes well with legume soups and red meats prepared on the grill or stewed. It is also ideal with game, wild boar or venison, and intensely flavoured mature cheeses.
