Ippolito 1845 “Pecorello” Calabria IGT Bianco 2023 – Country: Italy – Capacity: 0.75 Ippolito 1845 In this case, we are dealing with a real oenological gem: a pure Pecorello. This grape variety, indigenous to Calabria, has been known since the late 1800s. Some call it ‘Pecorino’, at the risk, however, of creating some confusion with the grape variety typical of central Italian regions. The Calabrian ‘Pecorello’, in fact, is not even a distant relative of it but derives, in all probability, from Greco. Ippolito1845 offers it here in a very interesting version. Vinified in purity, it is aged in steel to bring out its rich aromatic framework. In the glass it has a beautiful, brilliant straw colour. On the nose, it surprises with its beautiful aromatic complexity reminiscent of typical Mediterranean scents, with notes of citrus fruits, yellow-fleshed fruit and vaguely mineral hints. In the mouth, however, it is vibrant and balanced. Naturally endowed with a beautiful aromatic persistence, it is a perfect wine to accompany delicate fish dishes or even vegetarian dishes.
