Casa Setaro “Munazei” Bianco Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio DOC 2023 – Country: Italy – Capacity: 0.75 Casa Setaro Lacryma Christi Del Vesuvio Doc Munazei is one of the most interesting wines of Casa Setaro’s range. Interesting because it comes from a pure processing of Caprettone grapes, an ancient autochthonous Campania vine that the Vesuvian company has contributed to save from a sad extinction. But it is also interesting because Casa Setaro’s old vineyards stand on volcanic soil where phylloxera does not take root and where vines can still be grown on “piede franco”, i.e. not grafted onto American vines. The vineyards are located in the Vesuvius National Park at about 250 metres above sea level, in the Bosco del Monaco area. The workmanship is careful and carried out entirely in steel containers at a controlled temperature in order to enhance all the goodness of the starting grapes. After vinification, in order to complete the ageing phase, the wine is left for about 6 months in steel tanks before bottling, and before a final rest, of about two months, in the bottle. Straw-yellow in colour, the nose reveals a decidedly fruity character, with notes of yellow-fleshed citrus fruits, which are accompanied by hints of white flowers and balsam. On the palate it is savoury and intriguing, with good freshness and a long persistence.
