Caccia al Piano 1868 “Ruit Hora” Bolgheri Rosso DOC 2021 – Country: Italy – Capacity: 0.75 Caccia al Piano 1868 Ruit Hora, meaning “The Fleeting Hour.” From the “Odi barbare’ by Giosué Carducci. An important name for an important wine. This Bolgheri red is made from a blend of 65% Merlot, with Cabernet Sauvignon at 25%, and small percentages of Petit Verdot and Syrah to back it up. Harvested by hand and staggered over several weeks, between the end of August and the last ten days of September for the late variety. After picking the grapes were carefully selected to eliminate even the smallest imperfection that could compromise the final result. Then pressing and fermentation in steel for about two weeks. Maturation in barriques, separate for each batch, continued for about 18 months. Only then was the wine blended and sent for a further period of refinement in the bottle. Bright ruby red in colour, the nose is intense, with notes of red fruits, such as cassis and blackberry. The mouthfeel is well balanced in all its components. Sensations of fresh fruit combine with a light spiciness, with a long and pleasantly complex finish.
