Accornero “La Mattacchiona” Barbera del Monferrato DOC 2022 – Country: Italy – Capacity: 0.75 Accornero The name is one that is easily remembered. La Mattacchiona, however, is also an interesting Barbera del Monferrato DOC proposed by Accornero. It comes from a single vineyard of half a hectare, with a north-eastern exposure and an average height of about 180 metres above sea level. Accornero has been producing it since 1980, but the vineyard dates back as far as 1970. The perfectly ripe grapes are harvested and quickly delivered to the cellar for processing. The process involves a long maceration phase on the skins to extract all the colour and aromas. After fermentation and malolactic fermentation, the wine is then stored at a low temperature until the following spring, when it is finally bottled. A young and fresh wine, it is pleasantly lively and perfect to accompany an entire meal. Vinous and fruity, it is also the right wine for an afternoon snack, with a good slice of local salami and a sliver of cheese.
