Abbazia Monte Oliveto “Gentilesca” Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG 2023 – Country: Italy – Capacity: 0.75 Abbazia Monte Oliveto Gentilesca is a Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG, offered by Abbazia Monte Oliveto. A Tuscan wine of great character and pleasantness, it is one of the very few Tuscan white wines that can hold its own against the region’s great reds. It is made from pure Vernaccia grapes from vineyards at the foot of the historic Abbey of Monte Oliveto, erected in 1340, which faces the city of a hundred towers. The must, obtained from grapes harvested by hand and subjected to soft crushing, is fermented partly in barriques and partly in stainless steel. Maturation lasts 6 months, again partly in steel vats and partly in barriques. Intense straw yellow in colour, on the nose it is surprising for its clear scents of yellow-fleshed peaches, ripe and sweet almonds, chamomile, honey and slightly wilted white flowers. In the mouth it is creamy, with an intense savoury note. The finish is soft and persistent. Ideal with light first courses with tomato sauce. White meats and porchetta.
