La Spinona Barbaresco Bricco Faset DOCG 2018 – Country: Italy – Capacity: 0.75 La Spinona The 2018 Barbaresco vintage was marked by special climatic conditions that ended up enhancing the elegance and finesse of the wines. This is why the 2018 Barbaresco stands out for its fine structure and remarkable complexity. The one proposed here is a Barbaresco DOCG that comes to life in the Bricco Faset cru, a vineyard characterised by optimal exposures and a clayey-calcareous soil that favours a slow but complete ripening of the grapes. Covering an area of three hectares, the Faset cru is an ideal terroir for Nebbiolo, thanks to its elevated position and ventilation that preserve the grapes from disease and allow ideal ripening of the tannins and aromatic substances. This is proposed by Azienda Agricola La Spinona, a fine family business that has been operating in this area for five generations. Harvesting takes place between October and November. The Nebbiolo grapes of Bricco Faset are harvested by hand to ensure the selection of the best bunches. After harvesting, in perforated baskets, the grapes are soon taken to the cellar to be placed on a vibrating roller for further selection. The vinification process involves cold maceration for about a day, followed by a controlled fermentation of 12-15 days, with punching-down and pumping-over at key moments. Finally, malolactic fermentation gives the wine a beautiful roundness and great softness. This is followed by maturation for 9 months in large Allier and Slavonian oak casks, with a capacity of between 38 and 40 hectolitres. This choice allows the finesse of the aromas to be preserved without overpowering the natural delicacy of the fruit. Finally, before release, the wine matures for a further 12 months in the bottle, developing greater complexity. To the eye, Bricco Faset has a ruby red colour that tends towards garnet with ageing. The bouquet is intense, with notes of wild berries, white pepper and liquorice, accompanied by hints of aromatic herbs such as pine, white mint and bay leaves. In the mouth, it is velvety and harmonious, with a fine tannic texture and a great persistence that invites slow tasting. A perfect wine to pair with main meat dishes, such as roasts and braised meats, or with mature cheeses.
